About Chris
Chris Davidson has been a professional illustrator and artist for clients in New Zealand and abroad since 1994. He discovered his talent for drawing at the age of fifteen, sparking a lifelong passion for the arts.
By eighteen, he had already held his first solo exhibition. Following this early success, Chris studied design with a major in illustration at the Wellington School of Design. Upon graduating, he established his studio in the heart of Wellington, quickly securing major commissions locally and internationally, freelancing in the UK and France before returning to NZ.
Today, having cemented his reputation in the design and illustration world, Chris dedicates more time to his fine art endeavours. Drawing on his wealth of experience and love for creative expression, his artwork centres around people and isolated moments. These pieces carry an underlying tension or narrative, inviting a conversation with the viewer. Chris works primarily in print and paint, utilising bold compositions and limited colour palettes. His printed works feature flat colours and bold shapes, while his paintings rely on naive marks and expressive strokes. Guided by the philosophy that there is "perfection in imperfection, and imperfection in perfection," Chris embraces it all in his artistic practice.
